Title The Ceto-Magoist Root in Korean Muism (Magoist Shamanism): Pre-Patriarchal Mudang Progenitors and Today’s Mansins

Time Time 17 (8-9:30 AM Sat 14th PT)

Facilitators Helen Hye-Sook Hwang Ph.D. and Andrea Kalff (Shaman/Mansin)

Summary While Korean Musim and Mudangs (Magoist Shamans) are renowned for their powerful rituals, the Ceto-Magoist root of Korean Muism is hardly recognized by today’s mudangs themselves. Dr. Helen Hye-Sook Hwang maintains that Korean Muism is a pre-patriarchally originated religious tradition of Ceto-Magoism (the Whale-guided Way of the Creatrix). Ceto-Magoist heritages are too ample to mention. Suffice it to say that the image of Yonggung Mama (Mother of the Dragon Palace) seated on the back of a dragon is one. According to the Budoji (Epic of the Emblem Capital City), the principal text of Ceto-Magoism, Mudangs (Magoist Shamans) are the socio-political-spiritual leaders whose mission is to bring the Restoration of the Origin on the Earth. With Andrea Kalff who will share her story, “Why and how I became the first European Mudang in 2006 by my spirit-mother Kim Keum Hwa?” Dr. Hwang will discuss Ceto-Magoist rituals conducted by today’s mansins (an honorary reference to mudangs).
