Course Title: Virtual Mago Whale Pilgrimage to Korea I (0.5 Credit)
Course No: 301
Instructor: Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D. (Email: magoacademy@gmail.com)
Time: 10AM-Noon PT, Sept 19-Oct 10 (Fridays, 2 hour-long 4 weekly sessions)
Description: We will visit Bangudae whale petroglyphs in Ulsan and the Buddhist Temple of Gameunsa (Graced Temple) in Gyeongju to trace the sites mentioned in the Myth of the Pacifying Flute in which a dragon is described as the carrier of sea waves originated from the pods of narwhals or single-tusked whales. This will offer the key to open the symbolism of a dragon sculpted on the top of a gigantic metal whale bell better known as the Korean temple bell, which leads to the understanding of Sillan Temple Bells as the replica of whale songs to augment the salvific singing of whales from the seas.

Course Summary
Tour 1: The Whale Bell and Ceto-Magoist Odyssey
Course Rationale: Mago Whale Pilgrimage makes it possible to experience the pacific and creative power of Ceto-Magoism (the Whale-guided Way of Mago, the Creatrix), a pre-patriarchally originated way of matriversal soteriology, which was chiseled out and bequeathed by our ancestors across cultures.Traditional Korean culture comes to us as an open treasure of Ceto-Magoist cultural expressions that connect human lives with ALL else in the Matriverse. Our perception of the Whale Mother, going beyond what modern biologists and cetologists can assess, delves into dragonology often demonized as sea-monsters and serpents. Ultimately, whales are attributed to the terrestrial divine as one of the tripartite divines together with Mago, the Creatrix, and Goma, the Shaman Queen Mother. Ceto-Magoism upholds the original trinity, unfolding the matriversal reality of WE/HERE/NOW. We will discover the age-old understanding of the Whale Mother expressed in culture, architecture, language, history, and mythology, to name a few.
Course Objectives:
· Introduction to the cultural and architectural expressions of Ceto-Magoism including Bangudae whale petroglyphs, palace/temple/house buildings, and temple bells.
· Exploring the Whale Bell in its sono-numeric-draconian symbolism.
· Revisiting the Myth of the Pacifying Flute.
· Encountering the dragon as the animal symbol of whale songs.
· Experiencing matriversal soteriology of the Whale Bell.
· Understanding the revival of the pre-patriarchally originated Ceto-Magoism by ancient Silla Koreans in the 7th century CE.
Method: Participants will visit Ceto-Magoist cities, Bangudae (Groveled Turtle Rock Hill) that has the world’s most concentrated whale petroglyphs in Ulsan, Gameunsa (Graced Temple) in Gyeongju, and the Whale Bell by the name of the Divine Bell of Seongdeok the Great (r. 742-765). By exploring the cultural and mythological texts, we will assess the ethos of ancient Silla Koreans of the 7th and 8th century. Visual, cognitive, and aural materials unknown or unrecognized elsewhere are provided. The tantalizing stories, histories, symbols as well as the sound of the Whale Bell are to muse and awaken participants to the matriversal reality of WE/HERE/NOW.
Instructor: Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D. in USA

Biography: Dr. Hwang is the founder of Mago Academy and the programs of Graduate and Continuing Programs in Creatrix Studies. She is a born poet, student, and advocate for Life of ALL and has encountered Ceto-Magoism (the Whale-guided Way of the Creatrix) through her doctoral research on Mago, the Cosmic Mother/Creatrix. Dr. Hwang received an M.A. and a Ph.D. degrees in Religion with the emphasis on Women’s Studies. To support her research on Magoism (the Way of the Creatrix), she enrolled in an M.A. program in East Asian Studies and specialized in Korean Buddhism in UCLA. Authored, edited, and published many books and essays by Mago Books and the peer-reviewed academic journal, S/HE: An International Journal of Goddess Studies, and Return to Mago E-Magazine.porate the research findings of archeoastronomers to determine the myths associated with the cycles found on the ancient calendars of the Greeks and the Celts. Identifying the Goddesses of the matri-local cultures of the ancients with the seasons represented by the lunar, solar and stellar bodies has been a major endeavor in the study of archetypes, with an emphasis on the feminine archetypes of the celestial realms. Helen’s research with the Hellenic Studies Center in Washington D.C., her many trips to ancient sites, and her collaborative efforts with scholars in mythology, astronomy, archeology, and art have led to her discovery of the presence of the Goddesses in the night sky and the continued renewal of the Goddesses in contemporary times.
