Ceto-Magoist Origin of Korean Shamanism (1 Credit)
Course no: 320
Instructor: Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D.
Time: 12 PM to 2PM PT on September 11, 12, 25, 26 (two Fridays and two Saturdays of 4 hour-long 4 sessions including Sept 12 and Sept 26 as S/HE Forum sessions)
Description: This course concerns the Ceto-Magoism (the Whale-guided Way of Mago, the Creatrix) underpinning in Korean Shamanism known as Muism. Mu refers to the female-centered Ceto-Magoist Shamanism. Mudangs are the Muist Shamans. On the one hand, we will examine how pervasively the Ceto-Magoist mythos in the form of the dragon rider is embedded in Korean Shaman culture and rituals. On the other hand, we will explore the origin of Old Korean Muism in light of the Magoist Cosmology recounted in the Budoji (Epic of the Emblem Capital City), the principal text of Ceto-Magoism. Mudangs were the elders/daughters of the Mago Descent who witnessed the loss of the paradisiacal ontology in the primordial home, Mago Stronghold, and professed the oath of restoring the matriversal origin in the human world in harmony with the Cosmic Music. We will discuss the mudangs of the Paleolithic and the Neolithic highlighting Goma, the prominent Mudang of Old Korea from the fourth millennium BCE. Goma was able to establish a new matriversal confederacy, Danguk (the Polity of the Cosmic Tree) of the nine states, as a realization of the Ninefold Cosmic Music represented by the Nine Mago Creatrix in the human world.
Ninefold Sonic Numerology: The Cosmic Music and the Creatrix (1 Credit)
Course no: 390
Instructor: Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D.
Time: 12 PM to 2PM PT on October 8, 9, 22, 23 (two Fridays and two Saturdays of 4 hour-long 4 weekly sessions possibly including Oct 9 and Oct 23 as S/HE Forum sessions)
Description: Understanding the principle of the Ninefold Cosmic Music holds key to Ceto-Magoist soteriology. Ultimately, Ceto-Magoism (the Whale-guided Way of Mago, the Creatrix) teaches that humans are responsible to restore an equilibrium of the terrestrial sonic resonance in harmony with the Cosmic Music, also known as the Music of the Spheres. This mandate, mythic in origin, was carried out and handed down by Korean Mu-Shamans. Represented by the Nine Mago Creatrix, the Ninefold Cosmic Music reveals the cetacean/human hybrid intelligence/spirituality/religion, which manifests as the mythos of the whale-back-riding homecoming journey to the Northern Center of the Matriverse, the Abode of Mago. We will explore the digital root system of nine numbers, the 13 month 28 day Magoist Calendar, the symbolism of Nine Magos and Nine Dragons, and syncretic religious expressions concerning music and numbers within the context of the Magoist Cosmogony, recounted in the Budoji, wherein the Ninefold Cosmic is attributed to ultimate creativity of the Matriverse.
